Blog Monetization Tips
October 20, 2007
I'm certain this will be an ongoing hot topic of this website, as it seems there are quite a lot of people who want to make (more) money with their blogs. As with all posts, this is meant to be informative as well as interactive, so please do comment with your best blog monetization tips. (photo by Garrison Photo)
Now let's get started by looking at some successful blog revenue models, shall we?
Let's first take a look at the most popular first…
Blog Advertising Revenue
This is perhaps the easiest and most risk-free way to get started, but it's the most difficult to make decent money with. I know some bloggers who make six-figures with this model alone, but it's very rare indeed, and most people with quality blogs fall somewhere in the 10-$500 per month range, hardly enough to make it a full time gig.
But given time, consistent posting of quality content and a broad enough topic to reach a large market, you can certainly break through to the 4 and even 5-figure mark in monthly ad revenue.
There are three ways to make money with advertising on your blog. They are:
- CPA is Cost Per Acquisition (Examples are Linkshare, Commission Junction, Advertising.com)
- CPC is Cost Per Click (Examples are Google Adsense, Chitika, Adbrite)
- CPM is Cost Per 1000 Ads Displayed (M is the Roman letter for 1000. Examples are Valueclick, 247realmeadia)
There are many advertising networks out there that will give you the ability to monetize your blog. In addition, you can sell ad space yourself when your blog gains popularity. Heres a pretty good list of different advertising networks.
Tips:
- TEST! Always test advertisers, placement of ads, differnet types of ads, etc. You may find a simple tweak in your blog design and ad placement will make you 200% more money. You might discover some topics will make you more money with CPA or affiliate programs vs. CPC programs. I've seen this many times.
- Get more traffic! If you're making $50 per day with 500 visitors, think of how much you can make with 500 or 5,000 visitors. If your blog theme is broad enough, the sky is the limit. Just focus on posting good and valuable content and be consistent about posting. For more blog marketing and traffic generation ideas, I recommend checking out ProBlogger (one of my personal favorite blogs)
- Consider other ways to generate revenue! (We'll Talk about this in a future post)
Again, this is a topic we'll be visiting often, as there are so many ways to monetize your blog. We haven't even talked about selling your own products or services, joint ventures, membership websites, advanced affiliate marketing tactics and a number of other blog monetization strategies.
